Our Story
Medical Melody Learning began with one little girl's question after her brother broke his arm on the monkey bars: “How do bones heal?”When Melody accompanied her family to the emergency room, she met Dr. Mackel, an orthopedic surgeon who patiently explained the X-rays, broken bone, cast, and surgery in a way she could understand. His kindness and reassurance helped her feel less afraid — and inspired her to learn more about medicine.
After returning home, Melody sat with her grandmother, a U.S. Navy veteran and registered nurse, who shared stories from her own journey in healthcare. As they looked through family photographs and talked about caring for patients in the operating room, Melody fell asleep wearing the special stethoscope Dr. Mackel had given her.
In her dreams, the red heart-shaped stethoscope comes to life and guides her on magical adventures through the human body. Along the way, Melody meets future surgeons, doctors, nurses, scientists, and healthcare heroes who teach her about the body's amazing systems and the importance of learning, wellness, compassion, and perseverance.
